Massachusetts Firearms Law

In addition to his work in training law enforcement professionals from around the country on leadership topics, Ron has been training Massachusetts law enforcement personnel on firearms licensing and enforcement issues for more than 25 years. Ron’s training efforts in this area continue today after the recent passage of Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024.

Ron served as a law enforcement firearms instructor throughout his police career. He is a past chairperson of the firearms committees for both the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He also served as chairperson of the Massachusetts Gun Control Advisory Board from its formation in 1999 until it was replaced by the Firearm Control Advisory Board on 10/23/24. In 1999, Ron also wrote the first basic firearms safety course (LTC-001) to be approved by the Massachusetts State Police.

Since 1998, Ron has worked with legal counsels and representatives from the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Massachusetts State Police, the Executive Office of Public Safety, the Firearms Records Bureau, ATF, the Attorney General’s Office, various District Attorney Offices, and even state legislators in an ongoing effort to develop practical firearms licensing and enforcement solutions to common problems.

Ron’s book, The Law Enforcement Guide to Firearms Law, has been in continuous print since 1999 and continues to serve as a resource for anyone interested in Massachusetts firearms law.

A message from Ron:

If you are personally involved in a firearms related issue and are seeking legal advice, please contact an attorney experienced in firearms law. I am not an attorney and cannot provide legal advice. However, if you are a law enforcement professional seeking guidance or training on Massachusetts firearms law, please contact me at any time.
